Madhu Shrine

Nestled within peaceful woodlands in Mannar District, Madhu Shrine is the most important Catholic pilgrimage destination in Sri Lanka. Officially known as the Shrine of Our Lady of Madhu, it has welcomed pilgrims for more than four centuries and is revered not only by Catholics but also by Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims, making it one of the country's most respected symbols of religious harmony.

The shrine's history dates back to the 17th century, when Portuguese Catholics sought refuge while protecting a revered statue of the Virgin Mary.
